Restoration and Georgian churches are among the jewels of the West End’s built environment. In our next YG event, Charlie Clegg will give a tour of some of the finest.
The walk will start with Christopher Wren’s St James’s, Piccadilly and Our Lady and St Gregory, Warwick Street. We’ll stop for brunch before continuing to St Martin in the Fields: James Gibbs’ masterpiece and one of the most influential buildings in London. We’ll then see how Henry Flitcroft applied the Palladian style to church architecture at St Giles in the Fields. At our last stop, St George’s, Bloomsbury, we’ll look at Nicholas Hawksmoor’s unique approach to the classical tradition.
The walk will begin outside the Piccadilly entrance to St James’s Church at 10.30am sharp on Saturday, 23 March. The walk will end around 2.30. The walk’s total distance will be about 2 miles (Disability access should be available at every church).

This event is open to all.
