Fifty years ago, there were widespread fears about the future of Britain’s country houses. The V&A’s ‘Destruction of the Country House’ exhibition (1974) anticipated that government policies could lead to further catastrophic losses. Happily, however, this never came to pass. Instead, private owners found new ways to keep their buildings alive and in good condition. This talk will explain more about how country houses in Britain have experienced a positive revival over the last half-century. It will dwell on some of the threats that this heritage still faces, as owners contend with new fiscal and regulatory challenges

The talk starts at 6.30pm, doors open from 6.15pm.
