Proposals are invited for papers at the next Georgian Group symposium, which will be held in the Art Workers Guild, Queen Square, London, on Saturday 13 April 2024. Following previous successful symposia, most recently that on ‘Architecture and Health, 1660-1830’, held at St Bartholomew’s Hospital in February 2023 and our Wren symposium held at Trinity College Oxford in April 2023 the subject for 2024 will be ‘Architecture and Design in Britain, 1815-1830’. Topics may range across the British Isles, and may be grouped under these headings:
The Prince Regent/King George IV as an architectural patron
The development of urban estates
Infrastructure: canals and docks
Growth and development of resort towns
Country houses and domestic interiors
Churches and chapels
Commercial building
Building at the universities
As in previous symposia, papers should be based on original research and should each be no more than half an hour long.
Please send a paragraph describing your proposal, together with a brief CV, to Dr Geoffrey Tyack, editor of the Georgian Group Journal (geoffrey.tyack@kellogg.ox.ac.uk) and copied to Louise Robertson (louise@georgiangroup.org.uk)
