Join us for a visit to the London Custom House – a Grade I listed City landmark in whose future the Group has been heavily invested for a number of years. Just three years ago, the Group successfully resisted a harmful scheme for the conversion of this building – one of London’s most important Georgian buildings – at Public Inquiry. The new owner has developed plans for the conversion of the building into a mixed-use, open-door development, which will enhance the building’s fine neoclassical architecture and place it at the heart of an exciting new cultural offering. This is an exciting opportunity to view a London landmark which has not been accessible to the public for many years. The tour will go behind the scenes and explore the contrasting architecture of the building, via Laing in the West Wing (c.1816) with its grand offices and vaults, the more modern approach of Smirke in the Central section (c.1828) with its King’s Warehouse and Long Room, as well as the rather less inspiring 1960s rebuild of the bomb-damaged East Wing.

The tour will be led by Joss Brushfield, Managing Director of Jastar Capital.

The event is for Georgian Group members’ only. Please read our terms and conditions before booking.
