George Carter and Caroline Knight are arranging a visit to Raynham Hall, Norfolk, by kind permission of the Marquess and Marchioness Townshend. It is one of the finest country houses in Norfolk, dating from the early 17thC and with work by William Kent in the 18thC. We will be shown the ground floor of the house, followed by a talk about the archives; these are being catalogued and studied after a long period of neglect. Exciting discoveries have been made, such as two previously unknown designs by William Kent for garden features. We will see some of the building accounts, and will be given tea at the end of the visit.
