We’re thrilled to announce a major new Georgian Group project generously funded with a £242,000 grant from The National Lottery Heritage Fund. The two-year Building A Legacy project begins later this year ahead of our 90th anniversary in 2027. It has been made possible by match-funding from generous private donors and supporters of the Georgian Group.
Among other components, it will see major work undertaken on the Group’s nationally important archives held in our Grade I listed building in Fitzroy Square. For the first time, cataloguing work will be undertaken by a professional archivist and paid archives intern and we’re delighted this will also see more volunteering opportunities created. More generally, in the wake of the hugely successful National Lottery-funded Vanbrugh300 festival we have presented, this new project will see us back on the road and working with partners in the regions to deliver a series of outreach and thought leadership events across England and Wales.
Since 1937, we’ve championed the buildings, stories and people that shaped the Georgian era. Now it’s time to protect our own history as we celebrate 90 years. We are especially excited about the work to catalogue, digitise and properly rehouse our archive which includes rare bequests, casework records dating back to the 1930s, and irreplaceable photographs and drawings plus correspondence from figures including James Lees Milne and John Betjeman.
We’ll also be building a brand-new website and launching an online exhibition and oral history project, bringing our story to new audiences everywhere in our 90th year.
We look forward to taking you on this exciting journey with us.
