We are delighted to announce that Duncan Wilson CBE was elected as a Trustee at our AGM yesterday evening. Duncan was Chief Executive of Historic England from 2015 to 2025, having previously held CEO roles at Alexandra Palace and Park, the Greenwich Foundation for the Old Royal Naval College, and Somerset House.
Duncan said:
“This country’s amenity societies play a vital role in the protection of our heritage, none more so than the Georgian Group. My working life was pretty much defined by Georgian architecture, from Somerset House to Greenwich – as has been my home life In Islington and Hackney. The eighteenth and early nineteenth centuries produced an incredibly adaptable architectural style, from great institutional buildings to terraced houses, which are rightly valued today. I am passionate about Georgian architecture. It is one of the most humane forms of architecture and deserves preservation – including preservation through sensible reuse. I am honoured to be joining the Georgian Group Board”.
