2023 marks the 300th anniversary of the death of Sir Christopher Wren (1632-1723), Britain’s greatest architect.
A festival in 2023, ‘Wren 300’, is planned to celebrate his extraordinary achievements. Straddling the Sciences and Arts, Wren embodies the intellectual discoveries of his age. Well-known from banknotes and as the architect of St Paul’s Cathedral, the great military hospitals at Chelsea and Greenwich and of the City churches, he enjoys a public profile shared by few others. Wren 300 aims to introduce his life and works to a broader audience, inspiring a new generation to explore and value them.
A number of key organisations have already indicated their interest in participating in and contributing to the festival programme. Thanks to seed-corn funding from a benefactor, The Georgian Group is acting as a point of contact for the festival on behalf of its steering committee.
Please contact Kate at wren300@georgiangroup.org.uk for further information or to discuss how you and your organisation can get involved in the festival.
Further information will be available on the Wren 300 Festival website during 2022 and 2023.
