The Georgian Group – which, as a charity, works to promote understanding of eighteenth and early nineteenth century designed landscapes as well as buildings – is very concerned by the Government’s intention to remove the Gardens Trust’s status as a statutory consultee within the English planning system.
The Gardens Trust provides constructive, forward-looking and timely advice on applications affecting the UK’s registered parks and gardens. We are concerned that this move would leave Grade II registered landscapes – which fall outside Historic England’s remit – especially vulnerable. We strongly urge the Ministry of Housing, Communities & Local Government to reconsider. You can support the Gardens Trust and read more about what the change would mean here.
