2023 marks the 300th anniversary of the death of Sir Christopher Wren (1632-1723), Britain’s greatest architect.
We are delighted to announce Wren300, a festival of symposia, lectures, concerts, children’s activities, and research projects, celebrating the life of Wren on the 300th anniversary of his death. Thanks to the generosity of an anonymous benefactor, the Georgian Group has been central to the planning of the festival, providing a secretariat that has both enabled the building of a consortium of interested parties and the commissioning of a dedicated website – www.wren300.org, which is now online.
The site will provide details about all upcoming Wren300 activities and, as further events are announced, the website will be continuously updated.
As part of the festival, the Georgian Group’s 2023 Symposium, convened by Dr Geoffrey Tyack, will explore the post-1688 architectural work of Sir Christopher Wren, and its legacy in Britain and the British diaspora, down to the 20th century. With the generous support of the President of Trinity College Oxford, it will take place on Saturday 15th April 2023.
