This event is now sold out. Apologies for any disappointment.

Members will have an exclusive opportunity to see the many surviving late Georgian and Regency buildings within the tight security of Sheerness Dockyard, including George Taylor’s handsome Grade II* 1820s terraces for senior naval officers and dockyard officials, the atmospheric skeleton of his grand Dockyard Church (1828), the Commissioner’s mansion and the Boatswain’s house.  After decades of neglect recent years have seen a resurgence of commercial profitability. The Spitalfields Trust masterminded the purchase and rescue of most of the remaining historic buildings in 2011 and the church in 2013. We will see inside the houses of several generous private owners, including our fellow member Will Palin who led the rescue of these buildings and will welcome the Group. We will view the restrained classical Dockyard Military Hospital, c 1845, of 17 bays on two storeys, unlisted and temporarily protected from demolition by a building preservation notice. Lunch is included and Andrew Wells leads.
