Professor David Watkin, Emeritus Fellow of Peterhouse, talks about the influence of France on the Prince of Wales and Henry Holland in the creation of the interiors of Carlton House and the Brighton Pavillion. Holland created the popular image of the Regency interior; lavish, exotic, plush, the antithesis of the restrained classicism of the Adam era, Holland’s interiors reflected the ambivalent relationship between the tastes of Napoleon and the Prince Regent.
