Event Details

A special members’ visit has been arranged to view the premises of George Jackson Ltd, manufacturers of architectural plasterwork, at its works in Sutton, Surrey. The firm was founded in 1780, supplying composition mouldings from Rathbone Place to architects and builders, including the Adam brothers. Many of their early moulds survive and can be seen by members on the visit. George Jackson have been at the forefront of decorative innovation for over 200 years, introducing fibrous plaster mouldings to their extensive range in the early 19th century and being awarded George IV’s Royal Warrant in 1826. They exhibited at the Georgian Group’s Splendour exhibition in 2017 and were involved in the restoration by Peregrine Bryant of Crichel House, Dorset, which received the Group’s award for the best Georgian Interior. It may also be possible to visit to a Georgian mansion nearby. Andrew Wells leads.
