Event Details

Stephen Bull leads. This walk will take in the rich and colourful history of the East End of London from Wapping to Limehouse. With its proximity to the Thames, Wapping has had a strong maritime character for centuries and was inhabited by sailors, mastmakers and boat-builders well into the 20th century. Taking in landmarks such as the Prospect of Whitby, supposedly the oldest riverside tavern, and the Shadwell basin, members will make their way along the Thames finishing at Nicholas Hawksmoor’s St Anne’s Limehouse, one of the 12 ‘Queen Anne Churches’.
